Somaliland Watch Group (SWG) urges Somaliland Government to end the ongoing “Basmatigate” kangaroo trials and release the wrongly convicted innocent citizens without conditions. They are: Governor Ahmed Omar Abdillahi, Ministry of Resettlement Director General Ahmed Ilmi Barre and Special Advisor to the Vice-President Osman Said.

The court has falsely accused the three top government officials of diverting food aid. SWG expresses grave concerns over their arbitrary detention and unfair trials. SWG calls upon the government of President Ahmed Mohamed to fulfill his obligation under Somaliland Constitution. SWG strongly advises the government of Somaliland to abide by the international human rights laws.

“Boqor Osman who has been in jail for a long time because he expressed his opinion must also be released, because expressing your opinion is not crime in Somaliland constitution

Somaliland Watch Group is a non-profit, non-partisan group committed to strengthening democracy in Somaliland
